Oh god. I'm reading through the Feminism 101 articles over at Shakesville and trying to keep up with the politics and trying to browse through assorted electronics sites for Aaron's birthday. Oh god. I'm losing my mind a little bit here. This is too much to handle.

Okay. Breathing. Taking a break.

Anyway, here are a few of things from Feminism 101 which are recommended reading to every person who thinks and feels and cares and that's only because I can't make it compulsory. It was so hard simply to pick so few of them. Because I shouldn't have to feel afraid of being alone in public; or being out at night; I shouldn't feel apprehensive about getting drunk or wearing revealing clothing; I shouldn't have felt like I needed to shave my legs at twelve; because nobody is ever "asking for it" whether "it" be a beating or being raped or being slurred at or anything, and teenagers should know that but they don't.

Possible triggers are labelled here as they are on the site, but there is always the potential for it all to be triggering to somebody.

Rape Culture 101
Trigger Warning
"But my correspondents [...] always seem to be looking for something more comprehensive and less abstract: What is the rape culture? What are its borders? What does it look like and sound like and feel like? It is not a definition for which they're looking; not really. It's a description. It's something substantive enough to reach out and touch, in all its ugly, heaving, menacing grotesquery."

The Terrible Bargain We Have Regretfully Struck
Trigger Warning
"Always the subtle pressure to abandon my principles to trash this woman or that woman, as if I'll never twig to the reality that there's always a justification for unleashing the misogyny, for hating a woman in ways reserved only for women. I am exhorted to join in the cruel revelry, and when I refuse, suddenly the target is on my back. And so it goes."

More
"'What do you expect?' I expect more."

On Men Being A Part Of The Solution: Maybe One Day...
"[T]that the subject could never come up among men is simply astounding. And yet I am assured by the men in my life, it does not. Of the issues with which they concern themselves, sending them into tumbling debates about what should be done and how best to solve the problem—the environment, poverty, encroachments on civil liberties, etc. etc. etc.—the fact that one out of four women will be raped in her lifetime, and many more yet victims of domestic abuse, rarely, if ever, makes the list."

On The Feminine As An Insult: Seriously, Learn To Equality
"I have listened to men express directly to my face in every way imaginable that they would never want to be a woman... And most of them have been surprised when I had a problem with that—because, you see, we're all supposed to take it as read that no one would want to be a woman, given the choice, since we all know they're the inferior model."

I am a little bit in love with La Roux. Elly Jackson is also strangely attractive.

Had an awesome weekend, full of sugar and pizza and energy drinks and boys and video games and movies and no sleep. Now, have a poll-shaped meme, because the lure of a poll is oh-so-great.[Poll #1247814]

I highly recommend the movies "Kill Bill" and "Meet The Robinsons" to everyone!

Grabbed this from Raven. (and yeah, I left some of them the same, but I feel the same about them and it's easier than writing them back in)

Now, I dare each and every one of you to make a list of 100 good things in life! For one day let's forget about all the bad shit in life and just be thankful for the good. Then dare everyone that reads your LJ to do the same.

Wonderful news! (for me at least)

Lisa Rye is doing a commission for me of Wolfgang Jeanette! It's going to be just him, full A4 page, coloured with traditional markers. It's going to cost me about AU$35

And as I have no reference pictures of him for her, she sent me the sketch she's done to confirm if she has his face/hair right. And I was somewhat speechless, because it I think it's perfect.

Thoughts from those who read the Ragette stuff? And even those who don't?

Also, Lori's thoughts:

Squid: It's the skecth Lisa's done of Wolfgang fro my comission~
Squid: *sketch. Friggin typos
Katia: YES!
Squid: Just to run past me to make sure she's got him right
Katia: does she?
Katia: Or should he be manlier?
Squid: Yes. Yes she does~
Squid: Nono, Wolf is not very manly
Katia: ah
Katia: the name makes me think manly
Squid: Really? Makes me think "Mozart"
Katia: so much that if you ran a complete description past me I would still think of a guy with sideburns and a cleft chin
Squid: *grins* Sideburns. Cleft chin. Wolfy? *dead from laughter now*

I shall keep you posted as I get more skecthes and such :D

Okay, 'cause I haven't done this yet:

The social was fantastic.

Now, I'm bored, can't be bothered to write up a proper entry. So, here's a meme.

Comment here and I'll:

1) Tell you why I friended you.
2) Associate you with a song/film.
3) Tell a random fact about you.
4) Tell a first memory about you.
5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
8) In retort, you can repost this in your LJ.

I'm sick, I'm tired, I haven't heard from Lori since Tuesday and thus miss her (she was away yesterday and hasn't replied to my emails just yet)... I'm obsessed with[info]flash_indie and I'm stuck on the final boss of the city in the sky in Twilight Princess... So, I present to you a meme. Have fun.

The directions are to put your playlist/library on shuffle, write down any line from the first 15 songs that play and post them so your friends can try to guess the song titles & artists. Let's see how well you guys can do.

And no cheating by searching the lyrics on Google/Yahoo/etc!

I'm going to register for the World's Greatest Shave!

This is an Australian fundraiser for leukaemia paitents; you can either shave or colour your hair, and you get people to sponser you. All the money raised is donated to the Leukaemia Foundation.

Seeing as I'm under eighteen, I need my parents to read the Waiver and Privacy Statement, as well as submit my registration form for me. I'll also have to print a Parent/Guardian Approval Form, and get them and my princable to sign it-- but at least we don't have to send it in. It's for us to keep in a safe place.

I'm going to register to colour my hair, but if I can raise AU$1000 then I'm going to shave my head.

So, if any of you could take a look at the website, linked above, and think about maybe sponsering me once I registered? You can donate via BPay or credit card, which you can read more about on this page, part way down.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could think about it, and I'll post more information later as I aqquire it.

Maybe, maybe, nothing could prepare you
But that something and that someday always comes
And the only thing around worth hanging onto
Is a love of twisted symmetry demanding it be done
This way, this way

You're always the last to know
Your cigarettes and suitcases
And so on the story goes
You're shell-shocked in your shoelaces
And now that you're on your own..

And it won't be so far away tomorrow
Everybody says cause everybody knows
All one by one in single file we follow
Paying out the drop like dominoes
Today, today

You're always the last to know
Your cigarettes and suitcases
And so on the story goes
You're sweet dreams and your sci-fi sunsets
And now that you're on your own (now that you're on your own)
Now that you're on your own, silver
Where are you gonna go?

And so on the story goes
And so on the story goes
And so on the story goes

You're always the last to know
Your cigarettes and your suitcases
And on and on you go
You're shell-shocked in your shoelaces
Now that you're on your own
Now that you're on your own
Now that you're on your own, on your own
On your own, your own, your own
(now that you're on your own)

I have five minutes before I have to be off, unless I want no time online tomorrow. So, straight to the point:

Thanks you, Santa's Elf! Volume three of FAKE arrived earlier this afternoon, and I've already read it twice. I am now one volume (number five) away from having the entire collection~ (and yes, the last book certainly fufils all expectations/desires :D)

So, again; THANK YOU.

Planning on going swimming with Rachel today, then having her sleepover. And tomorrow I'm inviting Ellen and Lori over as well because the four of us have to finish our English assignment. I've also gotta do all the research I'll need on Monday for my Medieval Europe test-- you have to write a story set in Medieval Europe. The only rules are you have to mention the year and two real people, even if only in passing. But they're the only rules. She said you could even write out the entire thing this weekend, bring it in, and re-write it in your test booklet.

And, I've uploaded the latest 30kisses thing for Kailen/Wolfgang!

( A thousand years, a thousand more, a thousand times a million doors to enternity )

Last Stand

Well, my arthritis is flaring up. In my knees rather than my hands this time. And goddamn it hurts. My Ibuprofen is Not Helping. But I have a sleepover with Lori and Rachel to look forward to; we're going to watch my FMA DVD's.And sometime this week, between Thursday and Sunday, we're going to see PotC2. And maybe I'll be able to bring Lori, mum says. Anyway, I have a ficlet for ye all...

Title:
Last Stand
Author: [profile] lizas_lines
Rating: K+
Fandom: None.
Pairing: Corporal x Sargent. I think.
Claimer: Mine.
Authors Note: This is what happens when I read too much Monstrous Regiment fanfiction - war ficlets. Now, in my mind this is femmeslash. But it could just be het for all I know. Make up your own mind. I just know the Sargent is a woman. Based loosely off the first two verses of Death Cab for Cutie's song 'Into the Dark'. Enjoy.
